Deutsch: Diese Übersichtskarte zeigt einen Teil der Region Terra Sirenum, eine ausgedehnte, sehr alte Hochlandregion im Südwesten der Vulkanprovinz Tharsis. Es gibt Hinweise darauf, dass in der Marsvergangenheit Grundwasser aus dem Boden austrat und verdunstete. Hydrologische Modellrechnungen für diese Marsregion lassen auf einen ehemals hohen Grundwasserspiegel schließen.
Die Farbcodierung des Bildes verdeutlicht Höhenunterschiede der Oberfläche (grün bedeutet tiefliegend, rot bedeutet hochliegend). Die im Artikel beschriebenen Aufnahmen entstammen dem kleinen Rechteck innerhalb des Bildstreifens, der von der HRSC-Kamera während Orbit 16565 aufgenommen wurde. There is evidence that in the Martian past, groundwater leaked from the ground and evaporated. Hydrological model calculations for this region of Mars indicate a formerly high groundwater table. The image is color-coded to indicate differences in surface elevation (green means low, red means high).
