Description
Deutsch: Das Hellas Planitia-Einschlagbecken liegt im Hochland der südlichen Mars-Halbkugel. Das im Artikel beschriebene Gebiet befindet sich in dem kleineren der beiden weiß markierten Rechtecke. Die Aufnahmen mit der HRSC (High Resolution Stereo Camera) entstanden am 6. Dezember 2015 während Orbit 15.127 von Mars Express. Der Bildmittelpunkt liegt bei 48 Grad östlicher Länge und 45 Grad südlicher Breite. Hellas Planitia ist mit einem Durchmesser von 2200 Kilometern die größte Einschlagsstruktur auf dem Mars. Der Höhenunterschied von den höchsten Bergspitzen im aufgewölbten Kraterrand bis zur Tiefebene im Zentrum des Kraters beträgt bis zu neun Kilometer.
