Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Topaz
Locality: Xanda mine (Xandra mine), Virgem da Lapa, Jequitinhonha valley, Minas Gerais, Southeast Region, Brazil (Locality at mindat.org)
A monstrous, UNDAMAGED, COMPLETE-ALL-AROUND specimen with extremely complex geometry to its sides, and terraces of flat terminations atop. It has classic ice-blue color and extraordinary gemminess. The lustre is phenomenal, especially on the sides with all the hundreds of etched facets. Complete all round 360-degrees, and fully terminated with etched faces on the sides culminating in tapered-off flat bevels atop. The juxtaposition of the two crystalline forms is striking! There is minor association with sparkly off-white lepidolite. that accentuates the blue color. This is a phenomenally close match to the famous single crystal depicted in John Barlow's book, which he obtained from the original find 35 years and more ago. 13.2 x 9.1 x 8.5 cm
