| Description |
English: Top Lock of the Northgate Locks This is the top lock of the Northgate flight of locks on the Shropshire Union Canal at Chester. The concrete flyover carries the city's inner ring road, St Martins Way, over the canal. The large girder attached underneath the flyover enables heavy lock gates or other items to be moved between the canal and the nearby Canal Street. The shortest pedestrian route between St Martins Way and Canal Street is directly across the nearest lock gate, and the sign instructs people not to cross here but to use the bridge at the far end of the lock. Most people ignore the sign despite the risks. |
