A chance find at the McLeans Island Swap Meet today. G966 EAD was a 1989 Ford Granada Scorpio 4x4, originally from Gloucester and untaxed since July 1994. However, 'White Spot Motors' was apparently in Grimsby further north, so it appears it was sold by them at some point as a used car. I expect the Granada was exported to NZ, as that's how most UK plates end up out here. SY54 MWZ, however, is a 2004 Jeep Cherokee Sport from Inverness, which is apparently still taxed and tested into 2016. I was puzzled initially - how does the rear plate of a car that's clearly still in the UK end up in NZ? However, it then occurred to me that the plate above is supplementary, like what you might see on a trailer or caravan. I expect this plate was on a caravan the Cherokee used to tow, and seeing as many caravans are exported to NZ from the UK it was probably chucked on the boat with this plate still on it. The 'real' rear plate SY54 MWZ is still on the back of the Cherokee somewhere in Scotland! |
