(20.64 cm x 18.42 cm) Credit Line: Bequest of Mrs. Cora Timken Burnett Label Copy: "Acts of filial piety (showing respect for ones parents) were considered among the highest marks of virtue in the Confucian system of thought, which was imported to Japan from China in waves beginning in the eighth century. The devout householder in this scene has set up an altar with wooden statues of his deceased parents, and he honors them with offerings of sake and prayers for their well-being. The artist sets the scene at New Years, with the plum and pine arrangement and offerings of the special kagami mochi, which are rice cakes in the shape of mirrors. " Label Copy (Spanish): "Las acciones de piedad filial (mostrar respeto por los padres) se consideraban entre las caractersticas de virtud ms altas en el sistema de pensamiento confuciano, que llegaron de Japn de China en oleadas que comenzaron en el siglo VIII. En esta escena, el devoto dueo del hogar coloc un altar con estatuas de madera de sus padres muertos y los honra con ofrendas de sake y oraciones por su bienestar.
