English: Le 7 juin 1845, la Guadeloupe perdait son gouverneur, l'amiral Gourbeyre.
Lors du tremblement de terre du 8 février 1843 qui avait provoqué la mort de 3000 personnes à Pointe-à-Pitre, cet homme avait fait l'admiration de tous par son dévouement et son sens de l'organisation pour les secours. Ses restes reposent dans cette tombe au fort Delgrès. On June 7, 1845, Guadeloupe lost its governor, Admiral Gourbeyre. During the earthquake on 8 February 1843 which had killed 3,000 people in Pointe a Pitre, this man is admired by all for his dedication and organizational skills to help.He is buried in that grave at Fort Delgrès. Napoléon Bonaparte arrivé au pouvoir en fin 1799 décide de rétablir l'esclavage aboli par la Convention. Les Guadeloupéens qui ont goûté à la liberté résistent. La résistance s'organise, Ignace officier de Pointe à Pitre rejoint avec ses hommes un autre insurgé, Louis Delgrès (Un officier mulâtre libre). Le 21 mai 1802 le général Richepance donne l'assaut au fort où sont réfugiés Delgrès, Ignace et leurs hommes. Le 22, devant les bombardements, Delgrès et Ignace sortent par la poterne du Galion. Ignace prend la route de Pointe-à-Pitre il mourra dans les combats. Delgrès se rend au Matouba à Saint-Claude. Degrès et ses compagnons se feront sauter au cri de "Vivre libre ou mourir!". La mulâtresse Solitude, enceinte, symbole de la résistance des femmes, sera pendue en novembre 1802 juste après l'accouchement.
