Tomb Of Bibi Mariam Location: Nobiganj Godara Ghat, R: 111, Haji Ganj, Narayanganj, Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Tomb of Bibi Mariam is considered to be a part of Mughal architecture, more specifically a type of Indo-Islamic architecture. It was built during the 17th century. It follows the style of earlier Muslim architecture in Indian subcontinent. It has an uniform pattern of structure and character, including a large bulbous dome, large vaulted gateways and delicate ornamentation. This structure is identified as the tomb of Bibi Mariam with Turan Dakht, a sister of Iran Dakht and daughter of Nawab Shayesta Khan, Mughal subedar of Bengal. The style of architecture of the mausoleum of Bibi Mariam is different from the current Shayesta Khan style. Tomb of Bibi Mariam is situated right at the east side of the Bibi Mariam mosque. The structure is mostly ruined now. It is built on an elevated spot in the middle of a symmetrical square enclosed space. The structure is basically formed of a single dome on the top of a square building. It has numerous vaulted verandas on all the four sides. There are 5 arched entries on each side of the enclosed space. The entries were all open when built, but now they have been restricted using iron bars. Also the stairs leading to the elevated platform built initially doesn’t work anymore and thus the platform has been extended along with an additional set of stairs. The central square room contains a stepped tomb in white marble with floral designs, and a masonry cenotaph of Bibi Mariam. Four graves of less importance has been plotted in the verandah of building. The main building itself is a brick structure with heavy columns.
