Summary
[edit]DescriptionTitelberg - Capital of Treveri - 50660573163.jpg |
English: The hillfort at Titelberg was constructed around 300 BC by local Celtic people, many years before the arrival of the Romans. By the first century BC it was a prosperous urban trading centre, defended by earthern ramparts, and probably the capital of the Treveri tribe. Some twenty years after the Romans arrived in the area the Romanized settlement was completely rebuilt, with many buildings on the site being replaced by superior structures made of stone. Around twenty years later, however, these structures were abandoned and demolished in favour of Trier. The ruins of this ancient settlement include the foundations of various buildings and of a Gallo-Roman temple. Archaeologists have also unearthed evidence of metalworking on the site. Finds from the site are preserved in the Musée d’Histoire et d’Art in Luxembourg. |
