Summary
[edit]DescriptionTiny locomotive, Norchard railway station - geograph.org.uk - 1944728.jpg |
English: Tiny locomotive, Norchard railway station, near to Lydney, Gloucestershire, Great Britain.
At first glance, the small green locomotive could be mistaken for a wagon (it is only half the length of the adjacent wagon). Numbered 3947, it is a light (11 tons) industrial diesel mechanical locomotive of a type designed for use in factory sidings, gas, electricity or water works, docks or breweries. It was built in 1960 by the Frank Hibberd company,Park Royal, London and delivered to Barry firm Midland Silicones Ltd (later Dow Corning). After some time out of use, the locomotive returned to service in 2001 and has been used for shunting duties and brake van rides at some special events at the Dean Forest Railway. |
