Deutsch: Paolo Tiepolo (1523-1585) Prokurator und Cavaliere, Diplomat und Staatsmann, Gesandter am französischen Hof Heinrichs II., am spanischen Hof Philipps II. und unter den Päpsten Pius IV. und V. im Vatikan. Er förderte die Heilige Allianz gegen die Türken, die zum Sieg in der Schlacht von Lepanto 1571 führte. Als Vorsitzender des Gesundheitsamtes des Staates Venedig bekämpfte er die schwere Pestepidemie Mitte bis Ende der 1570er Jahre.

Object history Durch Napoleon gelangte es an einen Sammler aus dessen Nachlaß es der spätere britische Premierminister Lord Rosebury erwarb. 1941 wurde das Bild für das in Linz vorgesehene „Führer-Museum“ erworben. Es wird im Salzberwerk bei Altaussee bewahrt, in München archiviert und hängt ab 1967 im Büro der Bundeskanzler Kiesinger und Brandt im Palais Schaumburg. 2012 als Leihgabe der Bundesrepublik Deutschland ins Wallraf-Richartz-Museum. [1]
