Description

De BIMHUIS compositieopdracht is toegekend aan Tineke Postma. In haar nieuwe werk staat de sopraansax centraal.

Tineke Postma maakte internationaal furore, onder meer in samenwerking met de Amerikaanse jazzhelden Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter en Esperanza Spalding. De compositieopdracht van het BIMHUIS is een nieuw avontuur voor de in Friesland geboren saxofoniste. De sopraansaxofoon speelt een centrale rol in haar nieuwe muziek, die heel verschillende elementen samenbrengt: het geluid van de elektrische jazz uit de jaren 70 en 80, ritmes uit de Indiase muziek en het M-base-gedachtegoed van jazzvernieuwer Steve Coleman. De paradoxen en dilemma’s die opdoken tijdens de COVID-19-crisis vormden hierbij onvermijdelijke inspiratiebronnen.

Voor deze opdracht stelde Tineke Postma een bijzondere groep samen met de Mexicaanse ster-in-wording Fuensanta Méndez op contrabas en stem, in een verrassende ritmesectie met drumster Sun-Mi Hong en basgitarist Jeroen Vierdag. Gitarist Miles Okazaki is een bekende uit de New Yorkse jazzscene door zijn jarenlange samenwerking met de bovengenoemde Steve Coleman. Pianist Marc van Roon speelt hier voornamelijk keyboards en Fender Rhodes.
