Transcript InfoField | Tin Ghaut, Whitby. Tin Ghaut, down by the waterside, is a narrow wynd (as it would be called in Scotland), were lobster-pots and fishing nets, and spare oars stand about in various stages of disrepair. In the tumbledown red houses here great men have been nurtured. Sea captains such as Cook, the circumnavigator of the world, and Scoresby the in-trepid sailor of the Arctic seas. The house where Cook lived is in Grape Lane, a turning out of the Tin Ghaut. |
