19 December 2006 Ambassador Tuttle celebrates the origins of Jamestown Ambassador Tuttle attended the ceremony to mark the 400th departure of the settlers from London who went on to found Jamestown, the U.S.'s first English-speaking settlement, at the Museum of Docklands in London on Tuesday.

The event was made all the more special by the presence of the replica ship Discovery, which was officially presented to the UK as a gift by the Governor of Virginia, the Hon Timothy Kaine.

Ambassador Tuttle, who also officially opened a related exhibit at the Museum, entitled Journey to the New World, said:

”It is a great honour for me to be standing on the banks of the Thames on this historic occasion which marks the start of America as it exists today. I pay tribute to the brave voyagers who crossed the Atlantic in winter to seek a new world, and who formed the origins of modern America”.
