Description
English: Everyday scene at Rumiantsev Bay (Bodega Bay), 1818; watercolor by Russian artist Mikhail Tikhanov. Also titled Mikhail Tikhanov, [Coast Miwok] Inhabitants of Rumyantsev [Bodega] Bay in New Albion, 1818, watercolor and pencil. Courtesy of the Scientific Research Museum of the Russian Academy of Fine Arts, St. Petersburg, no. P-2090. The caption adds, “ The woman is pounding kernels plucked from wild rye.” The three-masted sloop-of-war Kamchatka, which is visible through the dwelling's entrance.
