Tights for boys in America.
Traditionally American boys did not wear tights for everyday style. Tights were used sometimes for athletics, but only on the athletic "field" and rarely were used outside of sports. Tights were views as girl clothing and boys did not want to wear girls clothing. The gender confusion of late has allowed boys to explore a wider range of clothing including girls style. What started out as boys wearing girls pants has blossomed into many other options. The girls pants had the look boys were going for; low cut waist line and very tight fitting and the girls pants had some stretch so the boys could have skin tight jeans. It took a while for clothing manufacturers to begin making boys pants with the same style, but by then boys had accepted wearing girls pants.
While nylon tights were still seen as girl clothing, the move from tight fitting and form fitting pants on boys to wearing tights was no longer so bizarre. Nylon tights were only different in their origin as the look and fit were the same.
This look only seems to work for lean or thin boys who have the body type of a male model. It is still not fashionable for overweight boys to wear tight fitting clothing, and thus there still remains the tension from boys who cannot wear these styles trying to make everyone not wear these styles. Though it is much harder to make fun of a boy for wearing tights now that it was 20 years ago, there are still those that try.
EMO boys were the first to embrace the tight fitting girls clothing, and with their cool looks and underground style made themselves above reproach from others. The culture dabbled in sexual identity confusion taking on characteristics of homosexual boys even though they might not be gay. A straight EMO boy might behave as though he were gay just to separate himself from the mainstream conformity. Kissing and even sexual activity among straight boys is not uncommon. This exploration has become more common and has freed boys to allow themselves to be more expressive with each other and not feel threatened sexually or in fear of doing something "gay".
Wearing tights as a fashion choice has become just a fashion choice now, not something seen as gay or transgender.
For many boys, tights are especially welcome as they feel very comfortable to wear. Some boys like the way their legs look in tights and like the way their body feel while wearing them. For some this leads to a fetish with the tights and can become sexual in itself. Boys wearing their tights "commando" style is not unusual and even to the point where the boy no longer tries to be discreet with the fact that his manbulge might be well on display from the form fitting fabric that shows the shape, size and mood of the boys penis.
For many, this display of manhood has become a game.
Several manufacturers are seeing this trend towards boys wearing tights as part of their attire and have begun marketing tights specific to boys. Still, the main effect of all this is that boys no longer have any aversion to wearing tights and freely wear tights, but in many cases under their shorts or alone as part of their sporting attire.

Whatever the reason, boys will continue to enjoy this growing fashion trend to wear tights, to be seen in tights and even to show off in tights. We can enjoy the show.
