Summary

[edit]
Description

Sometimes the most fascinating critters at the hatchery aren't even fish.

Yesterday during walleye harvest we saw four adult tiger salamanders. Tiger salamanders are rarely seen, as they spend most of their time underground or underwater. Assistant Project Leader, Craig Bockholt, noted these were the first ones that he has seen in years at the hatchery.

Tiger salamanders sport an olive and black camouflage and live off of insects and worms. This guy can now be seen by the public and is apart of our softshell turtle tank at the aquarium!
