English: Mercy Flight By Tiger Moth
A sick baby girl was rushed 280 miles to brisbane by air last night in the open cockpit of a Tiger Moth plane. The girl, Rosemay Gunn, of New Cashmere sheep station, St. George, is believed to be suffering serious internal injuries from a fall a few days ago. She lay huddled in a heavy sheepskin rug on her mother's lap in the cramped cockpit during the four hour trip. A doctor at St. George asked a Queensland Royal Aero Club pilot, Mr. Cliff Parson, to rush the child to Brisbane for attention. His plane was the only one available at the time. The party left St. george at 4.10 p.m. They refuelled at Goondiwindi, 174 miles from Brisbane, and continued 15 minutes later. Parsons flew the plane "blind" for the last lap of the flight. He had no radio or landing lights. Ambulance officers met the plane and took the child to the children's hospital. An abdominal operation was performed on the girl shortly after her arrival at the hospital last night. The hospital reported late this afternoon that the girl's condition was satisfactory.
