Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Tiger by Li Wonchan (no dates), Korea, Joseon dynasty, 18th or early 19th century. Hanging scroll, ink and colours on paper. A notice explains how the cute posture, big googly eyes and ornamental depiction of the fur and a circular white marking at the end of the tail identify the tiger as Korean work. Such images are supposed to have a protective function and are also symbols of bravery and authority.
