Description

German WW2 era heavy tank Official designation:- Panzerkampfwagen VI Tiger Ausf.E (Sd.Kfz.181) This Tiger was built in 1944 with the chassis No.251114. It was operated by the 2nd company of the 102nd SS Heavy Panzer Battalion until it suffered a mechanical failure and was abandoned. Captured and repaired, she joined the Free French 1st Mobile Reconnaissance Group (1GMR) and was named “Bretagne”. At the end of the war the unit became part of the 6th Cuirassier Regiment and the Tiger was renamed “Colmar”. Retired in the 1950’s, she joined the collection in 1968 and as of late 2023 she is under restoration to running condition. Prior to the current restoration, she is seen here whilst on display in the ‘Germany 1934-1945’ hall. Musée des Blindés, Saumur, Pays de la Loire, France
