Description

Gaststaette of the Zoo. Designed in traditional GDR style in 1963 by H Graffunder and W Wenzel in 1963, and still looking good. Fish tanks are scattered around the dining area. Recommended for a lunch of Blutwurst. <a href="http://www.fortunecity.com/victorian/riley/787/DDR/Famous/arch.html">Heinz Graffunder</a> also responsible for the iconic but savagely demolished<a href="http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heinz_Graffunder">Palast der Republik</a> in East BerlinThere is probably also asbestos in this restaurant, along with zillions of modern buildings, but it didn't put me off my food.

The zoo was planned in 1954 in the grounds of the Schloss Friedrichsfelde. The centrepiece of the zoo is the late 17th-early 18th century scholoss with restored formal gardens.
