Description

Trekking 3 days from Tsurpu Monastery to Yangpachen Monastery.

A friendly family in Leten village insisted we stay with them for the night. Living a very modest like, the young couple and their baby were eager to exchange with us in our limited Mandarin and even more limited Tibetan and their equally limited English. Such warmth as we all bedded down on the yak wool mats in their one-room house surrounding the always-on stove. We learned (not very successfully) how to spin yak hair into thread using a spindle top and how they wove their beautiful warm textile. Jason took a turn herding the yaks.

Dinner was dried yak meat dipped in butter tea with a few precious spices, tsampa (barley flour formed into a doughy ball and washed down with, yes, more and more butter tea. It is an acquired taste, but good.
