Español: Muestra el fenómeno óptico conocido como parhelio, producido por una gran cantidad de partículas de hielo en las nubes cirro y que da lugar a manchas brillantes y hasta coloridas en el cielo debido a la refracción de los rayos del sol en los cristales de hielo, que actúan como pequeños prismas. Se manifiesta alrededor de 22º a la derecha del sol, a su izquierda o, menos frecuentemente, a ambos lados como en este caso.
En realidad, como se intuye en la foto, los parhelios son solamente los puntos más luminosos de un halo irisado que rodea al Sol (formado por la misma causa que los parhelios), pero el halo rara vez se ve entero. Los parhelios aparecen coloreados en rojo hacia el sol y en azul en las partes opuestas a él. Se pueden ver sobre todo cuando el Sol está a poca altura sobre el horizonte, por la mañana o al atardecer, como en este caso.
