[edit]DescriptionThree counties meet, a scene in Hampshire - geograph.org.uk - 985222.jpg |
English: Three counties meet, a scene in Hampshire This is Rockmoor Pond, just in Hampshire south of the border with both Berkshire and Wiltshire.
There is a folk story called "The Lawless Pond" that talks of this place. "Rockmoor Pond - a small pond found on the corner where four parishes and three counties meet (Hampshire, Wiltshire and Berkshire). Locals tell tales of clandestine meetings at night, centuries ago, where deals were made in the waters of the pond, once know as Troc Mere, and where the laws of no county could be applied." The pond is covered with algae and dead leaves and the eddies were spinning it gently in an anti-clockwise direction. Or was that the Northern hemisphere going down the plughole? |
