Description

1463. Three-sided tripod base with relief representations. Pentelic marble. Found in Athens. One side of the base has a depiction of Dionysos, the god of wine end patron of the theatre, holding a kantharos and a thyrsus. Each of the other two sides has a winged Nike. The base supported a bronze votive tripod dedicated by a choregos victorious in a drama contest. The figures are attributed to the workshop of Praxiteles on stylistic grounds. 350-325 BC. National Archaeological Museum, Athens, Greece. --- 1463. Τρίπλευρη βάοη τρίποδα με ανάγλυφες παραστάσεις. Μάρμαρο πενιελικά. Βρέθηκε στην Αθήνα. Στην μία πλευρά απεικονίζεται ο Διόνυσος, ο θεάς του κρασιού και προστάτης του θεάτρου, που κρατεί κάνθαρο και θύρσο, ενώ στις άλλες δύο πλευρές ανά μία φτερωτή Νίκη. Πάνω στη βάση ήταν τοποθετημένος χάλκινος αναθηματικός τρίποδας,
