threadleaf phacelia, Phacelia linearis, Nevada, Jobs Peak Ranch Trail, Carson Range, Sierra Nevada, Sheridan, Carson Valley drainage, elevation 1530 m (5020 ft). This distinctive and showy annual species of Phacelia is common mainly in the sagebrush zone of western North America, extending southward into the northern Great Basin, and northward into southwestern Canada. The image is from near the southwestern limit of the range of this species. Also visible in this image are Wyoming sagebrush (Artemisia tridentata wyomingensis) and cheatgrass (Bromus tectorum). |
