Summary
[edit]DescriptionThorby Buildings, Leichhardt (1912).jpg |
English: Thorby Buildings, Leichhardt
Largely intact Federation Filigree shop-terrace row. The building appears to be original, but its condition is fair due to missing, damaged and deteriorated elements. These include the addition of modern cantilevered awnings and many of the individual shop-residences being painted. Nos. 129-141 Catherine Street were built as a row of shops and residences around 1905-1915 in the Federation Filigree style. They were constructed at the end of a major period of growth within Leichhardt. They feature cantilevered balconies with timber fretwork brackets and balustrading. They feature a continuous parapet, with 'THORBY BUILDINGS' inscribed on pediments on either end of the row, and a central pediment with the inscription '1912 THORBY BUILDINGS'. |
