Description |
English: Hester Pookes (c.1608–1678) married John Tradescant the Younger as his second wife in 1638. His son by his first marriage was born in 1633 but died in 1652. In this portrait, he seems to be offering his step-mother a jewel. Dated 1645, it belongs to the group of contemporary portraits of the Tradescants presumably commissioned by John Tradescant the Younger. |
