Description
Deutsch: Thomas Sydenham (1624 - 1689), englischer Mediziner
English: Portrait of Thomas Sydenham
Date 1747
date QS:P571,+1747-00-00T00:00:00Z/9
Medium engraving
Notes The inscription below the engraving reads "P. Lely pinx.", and "J. Houbraken sculps. Amst. 1746". Below that it says "In the Possession of John Sydenham, Esq.", who was the grandson of Dr. Sydenham. Presumeably the engraving was not attributed to Mary Beale because the publisher assumed her work was by Lely, though no portrait of Sydenham by Lely is known.
