Forrestal take the oath of office to become the nation’s 48th Secretary of the Navy. Lined-up in the Secretary’s office after the ceremony were (left to right), Senator John H. Overton; member of the Senate Appropriations Committee; Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Air Artemus Gates, Assistant Secretary of the Navy Ralph A. Bard; Representative Carl Vinson, Chairman of the House of Representatives Naval Affairs Committee; Senator David I.
