Summary
[edit]DescriptionThomas Cooke Telescope.jpg |
English: The Thomas Cooke telescope is the main telescope in regular use at Space Place. It is a 9.75-inch Cooke refractor, manufactured in 1867 in York, England, and has been housed at the Observatory since it opened in 1941. Visible in the lower right is the Grubb & Parsons clock drive, which was added to the telescope in 1879 and serves as the telescope's mechanical tracking system. The 5-inch W. Watson & Sons guide scope (attached directly to the left of the main scope) was added in either 1896 or 1905. |
