Description

Classificado como Monumento Nacional desde 1910, o tholos do Barro é a maior câmara funerária, deste género, conhecida na Península Ibérica.

Cinquenta anos depois dos últimos trabalhos arqueológicos, aí realizados, os investigadores regressaram ao tholos do Barro, localizado no município de Torres Vedras, para atualizar conhecimentos e perceber quais as técnicas de construção utilizadas na sua construção.

Uma primeira intervenção – após a sua identificação – havia sido realizada em 1909 pelo Padre Paul Bovier-Lapierre, arqueólogo e pré-historiador francês e por Félix Alves Pereira, conservador do Museu Etnológico Português (atualmente Museu Nacional de Arqueologia).

O espólio exumado do tholos e da área envolvente reparte-se pelo Museu Nacional de Arqueologia e o Museu Municipal Leonel Trindade, podendo alguns dos bens culturais ser vistos na exposição temporária Ídolos.
