English: This is a study for IWM ART 6351

image: an aerial view from an aeroplane of the city of Samarra within an arid landscape, bordered by the Tigris

river. The walled centre of the city is apparent in the centre of the composition, a golden yellow dome showing the location of the central mosque.
العربية: لوحة رسمت 1919 توضح مدينة سامراء الجديدة والقديمة على الضفة الشرقية لنهر دجلة ومكانة جامع الملوية العباسية فيها. قد اندثر معالمه ولم يبق منه سوى بقايا جدرانه الخارجية ومئذنته الملوية. فحل محله الجامع العسكري بعد أن خربت المدينة وهجرت أهلها في حدود سنة 280 هـ/ 893 م.
