[edit]DescriptionThis cruise ship is moored at what was once the international ferry terminal for the fast ferry between Toronto and Rochester -a.jpg |
This cruise ship is moored at the International Marine Passenger Terminal, which was once the international ferry terminal for the fast ferry between Toronto and Rochester. Rochester is a city that has been in long economic decline for decades -- some say due to failed Republican Presidential candidate Dewey, who was then Governor of New York. Rochester was the largest city in New York that didn't vote for Dewey. He is said to have used his authority as Governor to make sure the new interstate highways bypassed Rochester. Rochester was counting on the ferry revitalizing its decaying downtown. Its ferry terminal was right downtown, as was ready in time for the first ferry run. Toronto, on the other hand, was not firmly committed to the ferry. This ferry terminal is long taxi ride from downtown, isolated in the former portlands. And the terminal wasn't ready on time. This allowed a smaller highspeed ferry that connected cities in Michigan and Wisconsin to claim the title of first fast ferry on the Great Lakes. The fast ferry was only in service for a year or two. After the ferry was retired the customs building served as the set for a TV show about an elite border squad. |
