Scale, one and one half inches to one mile. \ 1864 BATTLE OF FAIR OAKS. 507 close to tlio enemys works, but were repulsed with a considerable loss,each of the two assaulting brigades losing three colors. Shortly after dark, Gen. Weitzel began to withdraw to the CharlesCity road, the rain, darkness, mud and narrow road making the retreatvery fatiguing for the troojjs, who were marching all night. The lossesin the whole movement, by the 10th and 18th Corps in killed, woundedand missing, were about 1,100 men. The enemy met here, who hadjust arrived from Gen. Ewells lines north of the James, were Gen. FieldsDivision, assisted by, or co-operating with. Gen.
