Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Thirlmere Reservoir Originally two smaller lakes, Thirlmere is three-and-a-half miles long, half a mile wide and 160ft deep. In 1889 it was purchased by the Manchester Corporation and dammed to become one reservoir. The settlements of Wythburn and Amboth were submerged in the process. Today the only remaining village feature is the church at Wythburn. Thirlmere supplies Manchester as well as other parts of North West England with water.
