La Niña is part of a natural climate cycle over the tropical Pacific Ocean.

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: La Niña is part of a natural climate cycle over the tropical Pacific Ocean. It consists of the cooling of ocean surface temperatures in the central and east-central equatorial Pacific and is opposed to the El Niño, which in turn consists of the warming of Pacific surface waters. The presence of La Niña heavily influences global climate trends, causing, among other things, increased rainfall in Australia or worsening droughts in the Horn of Africa. The Bureau of Meteorology of Australia recently officially confirmed that a new episode of La Niña is being observed in the Pacific Ocean. Although this is not uncommon, 2022 is the third year in a row that a La Niña episode is taking place. This three-dimensional visualisation, derived from Copernicus Marine Environment Monitoring Service data of 13 September, shows the characteristic negative thermal anomaly observed in the Pacific Ocean.
