Summary
[edit]DescriptionThey're not kidding - geograph.org.uk - 1187913.jpg |
English: They're not kidding A prescient notice that once warned walkers on the clifftops at The Naze.
The cliffs are a geological Site of Special Scientific Interest. They are constantly slumping and eroding due to layers of Red Crag and Tertiary and Quaternary sediments overlaying London Clay. Due to the difference in their consistency and age these erode at different rates and reveal many different sorts of fossil. The site is renowned for its early bird fossils, hence its SSSI designation. The mixing of the different materials when the higher cliffs slump are quite spectacular. |
