[edit]DescriptionThere is no better place than Israel to remember the 911 fallen - Flickr id 7976325936.jpg |
English: The 9/11 Living Memorial rises from the beautiful Jerusalem Arazim Valley. Today, 250 people gathered at this KKL-JNF site to honor the memory of the almost 3,000 people killed on that day eleven years ago. The memorial itself is inspiring, and its spectacular setting, at the mouth of the valley and just at the entrance to Jerusalem, makes it a breath-taking image. Ambassador Daniel Shapiro noted that there is no better place than Israel to remember the fallen; that the U.S. and Israel are united in the struggle against terror. In moving words, and representing the families of the Israelis killed on 9/11, General (ret) Dov Shefi held the audience spell-bound as he recounted the personal stories of each of the 5 Israeli victims. The haunting Hebrew melodies sung by the Kolot Givatayim group added further to the special atmosphere. The image of the Israeli Fire and Rescue Services officers paired with U.S. Marines to assist in the wreath-laying ceremony will not be forgotten by the audience, which included many foreign diplomats and Israeli and American youth groups. |
