| Description | The unique Atkinson Clock Tower is safely barricaded to prevent folks spraying grafitti or etching their names on it. The tower was built as a memorial to Francis George Atkinson who was the first District Officer of Kota Kinabalu. The Tower was built by his mother Mary Edith Atkinson in 1905. This Clock Tower has the distinction of being the oldest standing structure in the whole of Sabah that survived the destruction of Jesselton town during World War II. Till today, it still serves to keep the city's time. (Kota Kinabalu, East Malaysia, Nov. 2013) |
