Summary
[edit]DescriptionThe wooden bridge over the Cam, Queens' College - geograph.org.uk - 1335193.jpg |
English: The wooden bridge over the Cam, Queens' College "The bridge was built in 1749 by James Essex the Younger (1722-1784) to the design of William Etheridge (1709-1776). It has subsequently been rebuilt to the same design in 1866 and 1905. The red-brick building on the right is the President's Lodge (ca 1460, the oldest building on the river at Cambridge). On the extreme right is the Essex Building (1756-60). Behind the trees on the left is Cripps Court (1974)".
So says the college website, whilst also dismissing several of the myths about its association with Newton, etc. This view is from Silver Street road bridge. |
