| Description |
English: The western approach to Myton Bridge, Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire, England. Myton Bridge is on the River Hull only about 150m away from its confluence with the Humber Estuary. It was completed in 1981 and its purpose was to relieve heavy traffic from the two lift bridges just north of here - Drypool and North Bridges and to provide an extension of the A63 trunk road into East Hull and the docks area. Unlike these two bridges, Myton Bridge lifts slightly and then swings horizontally to allow tall river traffic to pass - although, these days there's hardly any! The bridge has a central steel guy rope arrangement from its control tower to stop it flexing excessively during swinging operations. Immediately south of the bridge is the River Hull Tidal Barrier. |
