| Description |
English: The viewpoint in Benmore Botanic Garden To the left of the photo is the side wall of the little shelter that is located here on the hilltop, and which is shown in 1914882. The shelter is a memorial to Sir William Wright Smith "under whose care as Regius Keeper of the Royal Botanic Garden, the Younger [i.e. Benmore] Botanic Garden was developed", as explained on an inscription on the back of the building. The viewpoint is equipped with a viewing platform, seen here, and gives particularly good views to the south and east.
As an information panel (visible in the photo) explains, the wooded slope in the centre background is the area around Puck's Glen; it is covered with contemporary afforestation, mainly Sitka Spruce. Above, on the skyline, is Kilmun Hill. To the right of the photo is part of the view down the valley of the River Eachaig. Looking down this valley on a clear day, it is possible to see, among other places: the Holy Loch, Sandbank, The Dunan (a hill near Dunoon), and the Ayrshire Hills. |
