Summary
[edit]DescriptionThe valley of the Gallangad Burn - geograph.org.uk - 1402258.jpg |
English: The valley of the Gallangad Burn. At this point, the burn winds around the foot of some crags. The burn is fairly wide here, but a much more convenient crossing point is located not far upstream: 1402259.
The name Gallangad (locally, it is sometimes referred to by a shortened form, "the Gad") appears to be represented by the Callingad which is mentioned in a 1680 retour relating to the lands of the earldom of Lennox. That name provides a link to a yet older form: the Atlas of Scotland, published in 1654 by Joan Blaeu, but based on Timothy Pont's surveys in the 1580s-90s, shows a building called Kaildungad beside the spot where the present-day Gallangad Burn meets the Finland Burn, although the latter is called the Burn of Mewy on that map; see https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1153458 |
