This course wastaught in classes to the groups byMr. J. H. Holbrook. Instruction wasgiven in bandage application, arti-ficial respiration, the methods tostop the flow of blood, splintingbroken bon.es, and the first aid treat-ment of snake and spider bites.While, fortunately there were no ac-cidents to test the boys knowledgeof First Aid, it is very valuable in-formation for anyone to have athand. Each boy attending camp wasawarded a certain number of pointsfor everything he did while there.These points were compiled for eff-iciency in classes, neatness of cabins,dress co-operation, and attitude. THE UPLIFT est ratings during their period ofcamp have been awarded prizes forthis accomplishment. Ratings aremade through a grading system ofpoints. Boys are graded according tointerest shown in the various phasesof the camping program, co-oper-ation, accomplishment, attitude andfor keeping their living areas cleanand neat. It was possible for the boysto earn a total number of 168 points. Winner of the prize during thefirst period of camp was LawrenceSigmon with a total of 166.5 points.Lawrence, a member of Cottage 1,came to the school from Hickory, N.C. on October 8, 1954 Winner of the prize for the secondperiod was Douglas Ingram with atotal number of 153 points. Douglascame to the school from Lenoir, N. C.on April 15, 1955, and is a member ofCottage 3. The third period winner was RonnieHodge of Cottage 9. Ronnie had atotal of 146 points. He entered theschool on August 7, 1954 from Char-lotte, North Carolina. The fourth period winner was Pat Slaten with a total of 157 points. Patis
