?wx3ffi?!ffflffi THE PRIZE WINNING FLOAT On February 12, Scout Troops 60and 61 of the Stonewall JacksonTraining1 School had the privilege ofparticipating in the history-makingScout parade held in Concord andKannapolis. This parade was in cele-bration of fifteen years of Scoutingin Cabarrus County. The parade wasthe first ever to be held and provedquite successful in spite of sub-freez-ing temperatures. At ten oclock Saturday morningwe assembled in Concord to parade through the business district there.Thirty-three floats were present to addto the glamour of the parade. ManyScout Troops and Cub Packs marchedbehind their floats. When the Concordparade was over we went to the Kann-apolis Ball Park where the Scoutswere served lunch. At 2:00 p. m. the parade assembledonce again and marched up the MainStreet of Kannapolis. Many shopperstook advantage of the store windowsto watch the parade. IHE UPLIFT 15

PRACTICING FOR THE PARADE The climax of the day was held inthe Cannon High School auditorium inKannapolis at 7:30 in the evening.There the Eagle Court of Honor washeld in which four Scouts received theEagle rank. The presentation of theawards was made by George Thomp-son, Deputy Regional Executive,Region VI (First scout executive ofthe Central N. C. council). The major address of the eveningwas made by Mr. Fred Vantrease,Mecklenburg Council Executive, whotalked on Understanding Youth.He stated parents should help theirboys reach goals that they themselvesfailed to reach in youth. Mr. Vant- rease told us that if a boy is fullyunderstood at home, juvenile delin-quency will be a thing of the past. Mr. Snead Clift, Council Chief Exe-cutive, and Mr. Lester Ritchie, CourtChairman, introduced the speakers. The highlight of the evening wasthe presentation of the awards forthe best four floats.
