Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The two railways at Alton Railway Station. On the left a Mid Hants Railway (Watercess Line) steam-hauled train is departing for Alresford, Hampshire. Originally the line formed part of the British Railways line to Winchester, but the Alresford to Winchester section is long gone and built over in places. The Mid Hants Railway is a heritage railway operating steam & diesel services. On the right is a South West Trains electric multiple unit train which will operate the service to London Waterloo. Alton is now the Hampshire terminus. The line is operated by the direct current third rail system which is found on most of the electric lines in the south west of England. The Channel Tunnel high speed service being the most notable exception. 1415669.
