I DUNN—RESISTANCE OF A 28-TON ELECTRIC CAR 11 resistance, in the methods of obtaining certain data, and in the speedrange. 10. Group A.—Those tests comprised in group A were throughruns from Urbana to Danville, 32 miles, and return. During any testof this group only one set of opposing runs was made on any givensection and such opposing runs were separated by a considerable timeinterval, since it took over an hour to run from Urbana to Danvilleor to return. Test 23-24 is characteristic of this group. The results are shownin Table 4 and Fig. 11, which has here been repeated as Fig. 3. Therecording apparatus was kept in operation throughout the trip andthe following data recorded graphically upon the chart: a. Current used by the motors. b. Trolley line voltage. c. Speed of the car by electrical recorder. (See App. I.) d. Time by 5 second intervals. e. Location upon the road. /. Distance by 50 ft. intervals. g. Brake cylinder pressure. The following data were taken but not recorded
