Kinderhook, five miles east of the Land-ing, was the birthplace of our eighth president, Martin Van Buren.His estate of Lindenwald, where he passed his closing years oflife, is situated two miles south of the village. The records of the old towns upon the Hudsons banks willnever be fully written. Irving pencilled notes which commingledfact, fiction, and pure humor. The real and passionate stories oflife in these old peculiar places have never been put in print.
