Description

A view of Toronto's "stump", with office towers in the background.

Construction on Toronto's Bay Adelaide Centre first commenced in 1990, but the later economic recession resulted in the halt of construction after only the underground parking and a six storey service shaft were completed. The concrete "stump" remained on the site until 2006, a symbol of the negative effect the early 1990s recession had on office vacancies in Toronto's downtown core.

The stump was demolished by December 2006 so as to permit the construction of a differently-designed Bay Adelaide Centre.
